Thoughts on home & identity – or how running helped me deal with the death of my mum

November 2015 I set myself a goal: run at least a mile every day. By 14th November, I developed a bit of a niggle in my left knee. I gave it a rest. A few days late I went for an ill-advised 11 mile run and the niggle turned into a buggered knee and a two-month hiatus from any real running.

Long run: 12.6 miles around The Sands with a stop over at Waverley Abbey

We kicked off the Bank Holiday Weekend with a long run through The Sands in Surrey, with a stop over at what’s left of Waverley Abbey, the church and monastic buildings of the first Cistercian abbey in England, founded in 1128. 70 monks and 120 lay brothers lived there until the 14th century. You can find out more about Waverley Abbey on the English Heritage website.

City trail: A pair of shoes & a little curiosity

For years I’ve run along the Thames Towpath between Putney and Hammersmith Bridge and I’ve never paid too much attention to little Beverly Brook that is about half way between the two bridges.

Inspiring running documentaries: 100 and Spirit of the Marathon

I’m really excited about this film, along with the sequel to Spirit of the Marathon 2. It’s so inspiring to see runners push themselves way past the limit. The longest I’ve run is a marathon, but this little clip alone makes me just want to lace up and head out.

Sightjogging in Philly

A few photos from my ‘sight jogging’ loop through Philly yesterday, taking in the Schuylkill River Trail, Museum of Art, Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Logan Circle, Love Park, City Hall, and Independence National Historical Park.
