Dickpics – it’s where we draw the line between ‘OK’ and ‘Oh no you don’t!’

An important question. Unless you’re an exhibitionist, the answer you’re hoping for is ‘no’. And of course, if you’re a women then you can substitute dick with your choice of naughty bits.

Anyway.

Why am I talking about naughty bits? Continue reading “Dickpics – it’s where we draw the line between ‘OK’ and ‘Oh no you don’t!’”

My April Fools’ round-up and a closer look at live streaming in journalism and customer service

At Sainsbury’s HQ, the team came up with yolk free eggs, we had a good giggle mocking up the packaging and our social media team conjured up a nifty little graphic about the benefits of such eggs. Apple Watch will save time as well as tell it (and I can’t wait to strap in)

I’ve made no secret about how excited I am about the launch of Apple Watch. It is going to be big.

I mean, look at it. Pure tech porn. Continue reading “Apple Watch will save time as well as tell it (and I can’t wait to strap in)”

In a world without bros, who will invite you to the gunshow?

Organic Valley is a mission-driven cooperative owned by family farmers. They’re about organic sourcing, working together with farmers and their customers.

“We believe that when people work together in the spirit of cooperation, we can create change and make a true difference in the world. That’s why we formed our cooperative 25 years ago, to produce food for our communities that honors the health and welfare of people, animals and the earth.”

Jon Stewart vs. Arby’s, Obama vs. Buzzfeed

As a long-time viewer of the Daily Show, Jon Stewart’s announcement that he is to step down as host of the Daily Show later this year made me very sad. Which is weird and a little bit silly, but bear with me. Continue reading “Jon Stewart vs. Arby’s, Obama vs. Buzzfeed”

BBC Taster vs. Snapchat Discover – how traditional media learned new tricks and self-destructing social media goes old school

BBC Taster is the Beeb’s brand spanking new approach to “open innovation”: all about testing things, playing around on the web, being as interactive as possible. It’s a ballsy move as the Taster Team quite happily launch prototypes that are perhaps only 80% done – just to see how they go. Throughout the site, you’ll see warnings about the site being a test area, a place where things might break while you use them. You’re also encouraged to rate the experiences you have (something that you can do from within the projects in an entirely slick way). Adidas embracers the haters, the future of PR and how often do you look at your phone?

Adidas have launched a new pair of football boots, and with them, a campaign graced by none of the world’s best footballers. Seriously. Adidas sponsor the World Cup 2014 winning side and they don’t include any of them? Instead they bring back Suárez despite having distanced themselves from him due to his ferocious appetite for Italian. Continue reading “Adidas embracers the haters, the future of PR and how often do you look at your phone?”

A look back at Fox News Facts and the Cadbury Creme Egg ‘First World Problem’

We started the week with the fantastic trending topic #FoxNewsFacts. A ‘terror expert’ had been on Fox News talking about how Birmingham is a Muslim-only city and that there are parts of London where Muslim religious police beat and wound anyone who doesn’t dress in Muslim attire. I’m paraphrasing the idiocy, here it is in all its glory (he really ramps up the madness at 1m40s). Continue reading “A look back at Fox News Facts and the Cadbury Creme Egg ‘First World Problem’”

Je suis Charlie – and yes, I do feel a bit silly writing about the digital bits and bytes this week

No words come close to the horror and sadness the events in France this week. I don’t have an explanation for it. However, I do think that what the team at Charlie Hebdo and other satirists around the world do is important. They hold up a mirror to ourselves and force us to look at us from a different perspective. As horrible as the events this week in France were, it is heartening and inspiring to see how the French and international community reacted to these acts of terrorism.

From the marches of solidarity, to people holding up pens and the now ubiquitous ‘Je suis Charlie’ posters – to the millions of Tweets voicing their support and condemnation.

Here are some that really struck me – because they fought back with humour, wit and determination: Continue reading “Je suis Charlie – and yes, I do feel a bit silly writing about the digital bits and bytes this week”
